Sir Peter Seaman’s Charity (Registered Charity No 311101) arises from the will of Sir Peter Seaman who died in 1715. The Charity is governed by a Scheme of the Charity Commission dated 19th November 1889 as varied be Schemes of the Charity Commission dated 6th January 1931 and 15th March 1932.
Charity Objective
The principal objective of the charity is to provide grants for the promotion of education, including social and physical training, of young persons of the City of Norwich who are under the age of 21 and who, in the opinion of the Trustees, are in need of financial assistance. Grants are made in accordance with the Scheme and within the financial resources of the Charity.
Grant Application Guidelines
Please read and follow these guidelines carefully in order to avoid delays in the consideration of a grant. The purpose of these guidelines is to give grant applicants information to help them make an effective grant application to the Sir Peter Seaman’s Charity.
1. The objective of the Charity is to apply the cleared income of the trust fund to provide grants for the promotion of education, including social and physical training, of persons under the age of 21 as the Trustees in their discretion may from time to time determine. The area of benefit is the City of Norwich and the contiguous parishes of Old Catton, Sprowston, Thorpe St. Andrew, Trowse with Newton, Cringleford, Colney, Costessey, Taverham, Drayton, Hellesdon and Horsham and Newton St. Faiths.
2. The Trustees welcome all grant applications that conform to the guidelines. Applications towards a specific project are more likely to be looked on favourably by the Trustees. Applications for salaries and/ or general costs will not be considered.
3. The Trustees meet 4 times each year. Grant requests may be made at any time.
4. Applicants who apply independently for a grant, rather than being referred by a professional support body, should be able to demonstrate/ show evidence of need.
5. To monitor and evaluate the application, the Charity may require a progress report or other evidence as to how the money has been spent.
6. Whilst there is no upper limit on the size of grant, funding of more than £1,500 per application is unlikely.
7. Regarding methods of fundraising, the Trustees will wish to see that you are actively pursuing all appropriate sources of funding.
8. The Trustees reserve the right to amend the guidelines without notice. The issue of an application form or correspondence concerning an application does not imply that the application will be considered or that any grant will be made; this is at the absolute discretion of the Trustees.
9. Once an application has been considered, the decision of the Trustees is final.
10. Applicants are expected to wait a minimum of one year before applying again.
